Tis the season for runny noses and chapped cheeks. Or so you thought! We all know the feeling of having a cold or even allergies and the thought of blowing your nose one more time, even with the softest of tissues can seem like a scratchy nightmare. It’s no wonder my child performs acrobatic ninja moves when I attempt to wipe his nose…
So, I decided to make my own soothing facial wipes and they work so well on little ones faces – heck my son even loves to let me wipe his face with these. Talk about a world of difference! Take a look at the pictures below, these were taken 1 week apart from each other. The first photo, he had been sick, we were wiping his face with regular tissues and he got incredibly chapped. I immediately started using the homemade wipes and exactly 1 week later, he cleared up!
These wipes only have 3 gentle ingredients so they can be used head to toe and will leave skin soft and moisturized.
Facial Wipes
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp coconut oil (like this)
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- 1 tsp vitamin E oil (like this one)
- 2 quart sized mason jars
- 1 half used roll of paper towels
Place the water and coconut oil in small saucepan and heat over low heat to melt coconut oil. While coconut is melting, use a serrated knife to cut paper towel roll in half. Place each half in a quart sized mason jar. Continue to stir to melt the coconut oil. Once melted through, turn off and remove from heat and wait until coconut oil has cooled to the touch. Add the lavender and vitamin E oil. Stir to combine then pour mixture evenly between two jars. Let sit for 5 minutes then flip over the roll of paper towels. Let sit another 5 minutes then remove the inner cardboard tube and pull up the first sheet for continuous, easy use.

Hi, there
My name is Angie I’m one of your followers for the essential mom blog. I know in the last blog you have created organic wipes for babies. I’m wondering if there is something you have use or try for eczema. I have a four month old who is been struggling with eczema since 2 months. His eczema is not the sever and I don’t like using medication right away.
I would love to know your thoughts on the topic from mom to mom.
Thank you.

Hi Angie, you may want to try jojoba oil or almond oil instead of coconut oil as it’s more moisturizing. Each baby is different so their skin may react to different products. Meleluca essential oil may also work well if lavender does not. Due note, eczema can have a direct correlation to diet, so it could be something your eating that baby is sensitive too (if you’re breastfeeding)Let me know how it goes!

Thank you for the advice. I will look in to using those oils. I’m strictly breastfeeding I guess I will have to look in to my diet. I have a Gluten free diet my meals mainly consist of meat, fruits and veggies.
I will have to check with the Doctor.
Thank you.

Dairy can sometimes be the culprit – but sometimes it is just babies sensitive skin. Stop using any harsh wipes / lotions / creams and opt for the homemades. It the only way to know when a product is free and clear of any harsh additives.

That’s great to hear! Unfortunately eczema, since it can flare up due to diet, it may be something that is constant but I’m happy to hear you have found oils to help manage it! Try keeping a food journal to see if you see flare ups when you or him eat certain foods, you can also chat with your doctor. Mine recommended to use calendula oil (not the cream ones with other ingredients but straight calendula oil which is based in olive oil) You can find it here on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KB7KO62/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00KB7KO62&linkCode=as2&tag=esseamom-20&linkId=WIOGH2J727UOVXFS
